Old college
It was during the 17th century that this "rue du collège" was renamed "rue de l'ancien collège" when the educational establishment was moved to the Ursulines convent. Until then, however, and since time immemorial, the town's children had gone to the Perron district for their education. The college, probably founded around 1580, was housed in the English tower and an adjoining house.
Presentation and history of Tonnerre
Tonnerre first appeared in Roman times as Tornodurum, meaning "fortress". For the Lingons, it was the capital of the Pagus tornodorensis. Here, in the Armançon valley, the County of Tonnerre was created, and served as a crossing point between Paris and Dijon, at a time when the King of France had designs on the Duchy of Burgundy.
